A Havant man has been sentenced to two years and seven months in prison for the robbery of a 16-year-old boy in Waterlooville in February.

Jordan McCready, 19, of Hiltingbury Road, Havant, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday (9 July).

The court heard how on Tuesday 9 February shortly after 5.50pm, McCready approached the victim on Mill Road, Waterlooville.

He then followed him a short distance before threatening him with a knife while demanding that he handed his phone over.

The boy was not injured.

Officers arrested McCready the following day and recovered both the knife and the phone. He was later charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He pleaded guilty to both offences and was sentenced to 31 months in prison.

Officer in charge of the case DC Lauren Howard said: “This was a terrifying incident for the young victim who was simply walking back from the shop.

“I hope that this sentence sends out a clear message that violent crime of any kind will not be tolerated and we will do everything we can to take these offenders off our streets and keep our communities safe.”
