Update on the investigation into the death of 20-year-old Sol Hemy

Afternoon everyone,

We just wanted to update you that following a thorough investigation into the death of 20-year-old Southampton man, Sol Hemy, no further action will be taken against those arrested in connection with his death.

Sol’s body was found in the water at Riverside Park on September 5, 2019 following a burglary at an address on River Walk where gun shots were fired and a group broke into a house being used to cultivate cannabis.

A post mortem examination concluded that Sol’s cause of death was by drowning.

Officers questioned four people in connection with his death.

A 28-year-old man from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of murder. No further action was taken against him in relation to this offence. He was later charged with dangerous driving and a warrant is out for his arrest after failing to appear at court.

A 34-year-old man from Winchester was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was released with no further action.

A 30-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and possession of another person’s identity document and obtaining/acquiring/using criminal property. He was questioned by officers and was released with no further action being taken against him.

A 24-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. No further action was taken against him.

A file on the circumstances was prepared for the Coroner and an inquest is scheduled for July 13.

Shyqyri Vata, 29, of Long Drive, Gosport was charged with dangerous driving. A warrant for this arrest is outstanding after he failed to appear at court this year.
