East Hants - Theft

Alert message sent 22/12/2020 08:44:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Hello,

We wanted to issue an alert to all tractor owners in the East Hants area following a number of GPS dome thefts in recent days.

We received two reports that between the 16 and 18 December three GPS satellite domes were stolen from tractors at farms in the Selbourne Road area of Alton, and we wanted to remind people to be on their guard and make sure their property is secure.

Police Sergeant Philip Shore said: “These are hardworking people having their livelihoods put at risk by criminals.

“Our local neighbourhood teams will be on patrol in hot-spot areas, and are available for our local rural workers to speak to for advice on crime prevention.

“We welcome any information from the public that can help us combat these offences. If you know anyone who is selling second hand farming equipment, especially GPS domes, please let us know by phoning 101.”

We wanted to remind you of our advice on how to protect yourself from this type of offence:

No vehicles should be left in a visible place when not in use.
Ensure all barns or tractor storage areas are kept locked and secure, and consider upping security in these areas such as fitting intruder alarms and security lighting.
When vehicles or plant equipment are kept outside they should be locked and the keys secured in your possession or in a locked key safe.
Padlock gates with substantial padlocks and heavy duty chains.
Consider the use of hitch locks, wheel clamps or ground anchors. You may require a combination of the above to meet insurance requirements.
All property, including vehicles, should be uniquely marked, photographed and recorded somewhere safe. This should include serial, chassis and model numbers.
Use property marking to uniquely mark all types of property.
