Alert message sent 26/02/2020 14:27:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Another shoplifter off the streets following some good work by officers from the Gosport Neighbourhood Policing Team.
While making enquiries into an unrelated matter at Morrison’s on Gosport High Street, police stopped Maxine Anthony, of Gosport Road in Fareham, as she tried to leave the store without paying for goods she had selected.
This took place at around 3.30pm on Sunday 23 February.
The 29-year-old was arrested and charged with theft, having tried to steal approximately £35 worth of goods.
PC Jonathan Needham said: “A security guard asked her for receipts, but she denied having any ‘shopping’ even as stolen items were falling out on to the floor.
“Maxine Anthony is a prolific thief and was arrested at the scene.”
Anthony appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 25 February where she was jailed for 28 days.
She was already subject to a conditional discharge having committed similar offences in the past.
