Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Here is our latest community update:
Theft from vehicles – a catalytic convertor was stolen from a vehicle parked in ASTER ROAD.
Power tools were stolen from a van in DANKWORTH ROAD and a van in GRAINGER CLOSE.  Means of entry unknown.
A vehicle in PORTER ROAD was broken into and cash, lighting stands and camera tripods were stolen.
Number plates were taken from a vehicle parked in CHAFFINCH CLOSE and from a vehicle in THE COURTYARD.
An unknown person was seen trying the door handle of a vehicle in YELLOW HAMMER ROAD, and the car alarm was triggered on a car in PORTER ROAD.
A vehicle was stolen from a driveway in LINNETT DRIVE.
Burglary – A house in SEAGULL CLOSE was broken into while the occupants were away and jewellery taken.  Entry was via the front door.
In MUSGRAVE CLOSE an unknown person has tried to enter a shed and broken the padlock.  In QUILTER ROAD a garage lock was damaged after an attempt break in.
Suspicious activity – In the past fortnight we have had many reports from vigilant residents of persons acting suspiciously.  There have not been any offences but I am very pleased that residents have taken the time to report them to police.  This gives Police a better chance at building a picture of where potential criminals are operating.
One incident involved a male who knocked at an address saying he was from the council and wanted to check the asbestos levels.  The male did not have I.D and therefore was refused entry and the incident reported to Police.
Our advice is to always use the door chain when answering the door, if you are not sure do not answer the door.
Always check the credentials of unknown callers.  Keep a list of the telephone numbers of your utility providers nearby and phone them, not the phone number on the ID badge.
Always keep front and back door locked.
Report any suspicious callers or activity to the police immediately.
