Theft - Pickpockets in Petersfield Town Centre

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Afternoon all,

Beware of pickpockets in the Petersfield area!

Over the last couple of weeks we have had two reports of theft on a Tuesday morning between 09:30am – 11:00am, whereby an unknown female has approached members of public on separate occasions asking them to sign a petition and make a donation. Both victims on the respected days had recently attended a local bank down Rams Walk, Petersfield withdrawing cash from the machine. Agreeing to sign the petition the unknown female leaned towards victims briefly, and said “thank you” and walked off. A few moments later both victims looked into their purse/wallet and quickly realised that the money they had taken out from the bank had been taken.

Both reports made to police described a similar looking female; approx. 5.5” in height, greyish colour hair, approximately 30 years of age wearing a blue surgical face mask and carrying a clipboard.

As a result of these reports #ButserNPT carried out covert patrols in and around Petersfield High Street this morning to try and catch this criminal in the act. Unfortunately on this occasion they have eluded us. But rest assured that your local police will continue to patrol and target these offenders.

If you have been, or know someone who has been a victim of this type of crime then please do report it to us on 101 or 999 in an emergency, alternatively you can report online: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/

Pickpockets and other thieves, especially those working in teams, sometimes apply distraction, such as asking a question or bumping into the victim. These distractions sometimes require sleight of hand, speed, misdirection and other types of skills
