Scam

Alert message sent 21/08/2020 14:30:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Good afternoon everyone, PCSOMichelle here. Last month, in our Bobby Bulletin, we mentioned a male that was scamming people by saying he had lost his wallet / left his bag on a train, and so on and needed money to get home. He offers to transfer the money there and then. He is very well spoken and well presented, i.e. convincing!

We have had no reports of that nature since but have now been made aware of the fact that the same male has taken to knocking on people's doors saying he is collecting for the homeless people that sit in Farnborough town centre. He states that he won't give them the money directly but will pass it to the council.   This male will have no intention of giving the money to the council OR will he try to help the homeless in any way.  If you know of anybody that is likely to engage with people on their doorstep, please warn them of this latest scam. It is always a good idea to ask someone at your door for ID. If you are not happy, close the door and phone the company they purport to be representing.  Failing that, just don't answer the door if you don't know your caller.  This kind of activity can be reported to Trading Standards and I have attached their web link for you here,

Thank you.
