Gas leak following collision in Church Crookham

Alert message sent 01/02/2020 10:40:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

We are currently down in The Crescent, Church Crookham, after a car collided with a gas substation just before 6am today (February 1).

A 35-year-old man, from Fleet, has been arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit. He remains in custody at this time.

The collision has caused a leak which is being dealt with by the gas company.

As a result of this leak a 50m cordon has been put in place on the advice of our colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

This had led to 21 homes being evacuated, with residents taken to a local rest centre set up by Hampshire County Council.

While this repair work takes place The Crescent, Pilcot Road at either side of The Crescent and Hitchens Lane will remain closed for several hours, so we would ask people to avoid the area.

Please keep checking social media for updates regarding these closures.

Residents in the area are advised to contact their gas company if they have any concerns.
