Warm weather

Alert message sent 04/07/2019 13:44:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Hello!

Summer has arrived!  Windows, doors and gates are open and many are out enjoying the sun whilst we have it.  Please see the below tips for reducing your risk of crime.

- Keep front, patio and back doors closed and locked when you are elsewhere in the house or in the garden.

- Ensure that all windows and external doors are not only closed but locked at night or when you are out of the house. Even a small window could provide a burglar with an opportunity to reach through and open a larger window to gain access.

- Remember to close downstairs windows when leaving a room, to deter the opportunist thief.

- Hot weather can lead to increase use of gardens and their associated equipment (bikes, BBQ's and gardening tools etc.) Please keep all equipment secure and locked up and out of sight after use. By doing so this will deter any thefts or criminal activity in or around your property.

- Look out for your neighbours' property if they are away for a few days.

- Joining your local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme is good way to meet those living on your street. Your local Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator, Nigel Prior, helps to keep the local groups informed of criminal activity in the community, pass on crime prevention advice and help resolve local issues. Local members are encouraged to keep an eye on what's going and pass on details of suspicious activity.

- Remember to close your windows on your cars and don't leave any valuables on display. Often Officers see unattended vehicles with windows left open as owners either forget or are ventilating their vehicles. This is unfortunately an open opportunity for criminals to exploit, whether this is in your driveway, on the road or parked up at a beauty spot.
