Wallet stolen during robbery in Basingstoke

Alert message sent 12/06/2018 15:20:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

We are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was robbed by a group of youths in Basingstoke.

Between 5pm and 5.15pm on Sunday 10 June, the 18-year-old victim was walking along a pathway behind Ludlow Close, next to the railway line, when he felt someone take hold of his rucksack and pull him to the floor.

The victim was then repeatedly punched and kicked by a group of boys.

One member of the group stole the victim’s wallet, which contained £265 in cash and a bank card, before the group left the area.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information regarding those involved.

PC Rob Penn said: “We want to speak with anyone who can help us identify the people involved, or can provide any information to investigate this matter.

“Were you in this area? Did you see a large group of youths here or in the surrounding areas at this time?

“We believe this group may have travelled from the nearby Co-op in the direction of Basingstoke Leisure Park prior to this incident taking place. Did you see them?”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northern CID on 101, quoting 44180216474, or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
