I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Burglary - Residential, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Are you going on holiday this year? Crime Prevention Advice
Good morning, If you find the below information helpful, please “rate” this message at the bottom (very quick and simple). Please help us to reach more residents. Tell your neighbours, friends & family about Hampshire Alert - anyone can register - https://www.hampshirealert.co.uk/ As I’m talking to residents on patrol, I’m aware that some of you are already soon to go on holiday. We want you to stay safe, while enjoying the summer months. PLEASE CONSIDER WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT YOUR HOME AND PROERTY BEFORE YOU GO AWAY - 🏖️When you're away make your home look like someone is living in it - • Use automatic timer-switches to turn your lights on when it becomes dark. Some timers have a built-in random programme to prevent lights coming on at the same time every day. • Use a timer to play a radio. • Use your home smart devices (Alexa etc) to play noises during the daytime / evening. 🌞Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property and leave a contact number so they can get in contact with you if anything happens. You can also ask a trusted neighbour, friend or family member to - • Park on your drive if you have one. • Open and close curtains. • Collect post. • Water the garden. 🌴Avoid discussing holiday plans where strangers may hear details of your absence from home. 🏖️Cut the lawn before you go and trim back any plants that cover windows and doors or places where people could hide. 🌞Uncollected mail is a sign that you are away. Ask a neighbour or friend to collect it for you or consider using the Royal Mail Keep safe service. 🌴If possible, store valuable documents or items in a safe. 🏖️If you normally leave valuable bicycles or similar in your shed, consider putting them in the house and secure them with two locks. 🌞Make sure that you’ve locked all windows and doors, and if you have an alarm, use it. 🌴Make sure valuable items such as laptops, games consoles, etc, are not on view from outside. 🏖️Register the makes, models and serial numbers of your items for free and take photos of jewellery and upload them to www.immobilise.com Using this service will assist the police in returning property to the rightful owner should it be stolen. 🌞Make sure that you have up-to-date building and contents insurance and check for any specific requirements relating to security. 🌴Lock tools, ladders, etc, away so that they cannot be used to gain entry to your home. 🏖️Be mindful of what you write on social media which could identify you as being away on holiday. 🌞Remember to cancel any regular deliveries. Burglary is a particularly invasive crime that can have a lasting impact on victims. If you have been a victim and need support and help, you should have been offered the services of Victim Support. You may have declined at the time, or not noticed the offer, but can refer yourself at any time by either calling 0808 168 9111 or visiting their website www.victimsupport.org.uk. Burglars do not want to get caught, so taking action to make your home or business premises safe and less attractive to thieves can go a long way to reducing the risk. If looking to take positive action to prevent yourself from being a victim of this type of crime, help and advice can be found on the https://www.hampshire.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/protect-home-crime/ Neighbourhood Watch is about people getting together with their neighbours to take action to reduce crime. They're community initiatives owned and run by their members which are supported by the police but not owned by them, although we sometimes run them. They work by developing a close relationship between community members and the local police. Go to Neighbourhood Watch website to find out what groups are active in your area and to register to join. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.hampshire.police.uk, or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
