Man, 33, charged with drug offence in Basingstoke

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Drugs and related issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

A man has been charged after officers located a bag which contained more than 60 wraps of suspected crack cocaine in Basingstoke yesterday.

Plain-clothed officers were on Worting Road when they spotted suspected drug-related activity at around 10.30am on Thursday 9 April.

A man attempted to evade police but was detained nearby on Queen’s Road. Following a search, officers located 66 wraps of suspected crack cocaine inside a bag and arrested a man at the scene.

Officers also carried out a search at an address in Chineham and located a baton which was seized.

Cain Dorkin, 33, of Lime Tree Way, Chineham, has been charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A and possessing an offensive weapon in a private place.

He is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court today (10 April).

The illicit drugs market is big business, worth an estimated £9.4 billion a year and drug deaths have reached an all-time. Taking the health harms, costs of crime and wider impacts on society together, it is estimated the total costs of drugs to society are over £19 billion, which is more than twice the value of the market itself.

If you are adversely affected by antisocial behaviour in your community associated with drug use, The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 outlines the flexible tools and powers that the police, local authorities and other local agencies can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour.
