I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Violent Crime, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A man has been jailed after admitting stabbing another man in the arm in Winchester.
Daniel McAuley, of Winnall Manor Road, Winchester, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday 15 December.
The 35-year-old had been due to stand trial that day, but was sentencing after admitting a charge of causing GBH without intent.
The court heard that police were called to a report that a man in his 40s had been injured in the Durngate Terrace area, at around 10.20pm on Friday 20 June.
It was reported that there had been an altercation inside a vehicle and the man had been stabbed in the arm. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Officers attended and arrested McAuley close to the scene. A discarded knife was found nearby.
Following an investigation by officers at Winchester CID, McAuley was charged in relation to this incident. At court on Monday, he was jailed for 30 months.
Officer in the case, Detective Constable Frank Jones, said: “The consequences of carrying and using knives can be devastating.
“Fortunately in this case, the victim did not sustain a life-threatening injury, but using a knife in this way can easily lead to fatal consequences.
“I hope this investigation and court result shows we will take knife crime seriously and will look to take those who perpetrate off the streets and before the courts.”
