Vehicular ASB in Blackwater and Hawley

Good evening!

On Friday I had a meeting with residents of Blackwater and Hawley in relation to vehicular antisocial behaviour, particularly on Hawley Road/Lane, Rosemary Lane, and Reading Road.

I understand residents’ frustration around this therefore the meeting was important to get the opinions of those this affects so much, with both speeding and vehicle noise being a concern.

We’ve agreed a number of initial actions, including the following:

Continuing Cops & Coffee events at Hawley Memorial to give residents an opportunity to come and speak to me, the Local Bobby for the area, to voice concerns about what’s happening in our community. The next event is scheduled for Sunday 26th October at Coffee on the Green from 10am onwards.

Speedwatch was once thriving in Blackwater however in recent times this appears to have dwindled, therefore I have made contact with those who were previously involved to try and revitalise this and allow the community to positively affect road safety in your area.

Speed enforcement by myself to be commenced on Hawley Road/Lane, Rosemary Lane and Reading Road, and results to be published on our social media and Hampshire Alert.

Operations in the area to target vehicles causing these issues, with the hope that Thames Valley and Surrey Police will also join us as this problem is centred around Meadows Roundabout, the meeting point for the three forces.

There are a number of other slightly more technical actions for myself, including ensuring that our control room correctly records separate calls, and collating those results to accurately portray this issue to those who need to know so that we can fix this problem.

I appreciate that there is frustration around reporting and the feeling that nothing happens, however please do continue to report this via 101 or our website as this helps us direct patrols when and where the incident is taking place. If we do not receive reports we are unable to direct patrols at the right place and time.
