I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Nuisance Vehicle use, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. We are aware of recent reports of vehicle-related anti-social behaviour in the Boorley Green area. Officers, including those from our Roads Policing Unit, have been carrying out patrols in the area. As a result of the most recent patrols, six riders were spoken to by officers. Defects were discovered on some of the vehicles, including illegal ‘not for road use’ exhausts, number plates not confirming, learner plates not being correctly displayed, and issues with tints or visors. As a consequence of these defects, tickets were issued to two riders. Hedge End Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector, Alex Lockyer, said: “In terms of continued anti-social behaviour in the locality, it is clear that vehicle nuisance, racing motorcycles and illegal use of e-bikes and scooters are causing misery and concerns to residents, other road users and pedestrians. “In response to the increased reports of this nature we are launching a new campaign to target this specific issue – Operation Tranquility. “Operation Tranquility will involve officers within the Local Neighbourhood Policing Team working closely with our colleagues within the Roads Policing Unit to jointly tackle this problem. “You can expect to see continued proactive patrols to disrupt this illegal activity and an increase in speed enforcement activity whilst we continue to work with our partners to continue to identify long term solutions. “Please continue to report incidents to us, this directly informs our approach and where we will focus resourcing to tackle this issue and prevent further anti-social behaviour in our communities. “As our officers continue their proactive patrols in the area, please do come over and speak to them. They will be happy to hear from you, discuss any concerns, answer questions and offer advice.” To report an incident to us, please call 101 (999 in an emergency) or report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, below; https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/ You can also contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. February 2025 saw the publication of the Ministry of Justice Crime and Policing Bill: Antisocial behaviour (ASB) factsheet. This outlined a number of new measures including making powers to seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 easier to use, allowing the police to react robustly and immediately to the anti-social use of motor vehicles. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.hampshire.police.uk, or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
