Crime prevention advice following shed breaks in Romsey

Officers in Romsey are issuing crime prevention advice following seven reports of shed breaks in Romsey.

The burglaries took place overnight between 7pm on Monday, 16 May and 7.50am Tuesday, 17 May.

Items including bikes and fishing equipment were stolen from sheds and outbuildings in Bracken Road, Priestlands, Fairview Close and Yokesford Hill.

We are encouraging anyone who has been affected to report it to us so we can build up a bigger picture of the areas being targeted and when.

In addition, if you witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in these areas, or have any private CCTV that may have captured something, please contact us on 101 or online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ quoting reference 44220184034.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some measures you can take to protect your property:

  • Use of a good padlock on the door to your shed or garage with no exposed screws.
  • Keep it locked at all times
  • Consider fitting a battery-operated shed alarm with a loud siren
  • Secure your bike to the ground or lockable stand within a locked shed or garage. Visit https://www.soldsecure.com/ to search for ground anchors or other security products
  • Think about what a thief might see from any window of your shed or garage. Keep your valuable items covered from view.
  • Where possible, keep sports tracking apps private to prevent criminals finding out where bikes and sporting equipment are being stored.
