Two arrested in connection with drug supply in Portsmouth

Good morning everyone,

We wanted to let you know that we have arrested two people in connection with Class A drugs offences in Portsmouth.

At approximately 12.10pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday 19 May) patrolling officers from Portsmouth’s High Harm team spotted suspicious activity in the vicinity of an address on Crasswell Street.

Two 19-year-old men from Portsmouth were detained under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

More than £350 in cash, several mobile phones, suspected Class A drugs and drug paraphernalia were seized. We also seized two knives.

One of the men was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in offer to supply a Class A drug and possession of an offensive weapon.

The second man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

Both men have been released from police custody but remain under investigation while our enquiries continue.

We are committed to tackling knife crime, and this week we are supporting the national Op Sceptre week of action to reduce knife offending.

This involves proactive operational police activity such as this one, but is also supported by other initiatives including engagement with local schools and licensed premises.

We will continue to work closely with young people to further understand the reasons why individuals carry knives and to educate them around the dangers and illegality of carrying one – we want to highlight that there are no positives to carrying a knife.

If you are aware of anyone who carries a knife or have concerns that someone you know may carry a knife, please report it to police online or via 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
