Increase in thefts from motor vehicles

Good afternoon, Southampton North.

Although the weather has taken a darker turn today, it hasn't stopped your local policing team from hitting the streets and patrolling our hotspot areas following a rise in thefts from motor vehicles.

Many of these incidents involve opportunists trying car door handles as they pass, hoping to find a vehicle that hasn't been properly secured.

We’ve responded by conducting a survey of vehicles in the area—checking for valuables left on display. This allowed us to raise awareness and offer crime prevention advice to individuals we identified as potentially at risk.

Items such as loose change, satnavs and rucksacks were frequently spotted. While these might seem minor, if they’re visible, they can be stolen.

Please take a look at the linked picture below, which you can print and share. It highlights simple actions you can take to help protect yourself from becoming a victim of this type of crime.
