Theft of tools from vans

Good afternoon Resident

Waterlooville Police have had two reports of theft of tools from vans on 05/07/25.

These have occurred in SPARROW CLOSE & DOVE CLOSE

If you have any information or CCTV from this area please call 101 or report online via the Hampshire Constabulary website quoting 44250297986 for Sparrow Close and 44250297975 for Dove Close.

Although this has happened in Wecock, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all van owners the following….

Tool theft from vans - Prevention measures

Vans are often targeted by thieves for the tools stored inside. Keep your vehicle locked at all times, even if unattended for a few
moments. Physically check doors are locked before leaving.

If you have to leave tools in a van overnight, it's a good idea to mark them clearly with your name / company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray. Alternatively, you can use a variety of other property marking systems. Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on.

Consider using a lockable cabinet within your van to store tools – a number of security rated products are available. Small cameras are also designed to record inside vehicles. Visit Secured by Design for more details.

Speak to your dealership or manufacturer about upgrading your vehicle’s alarm and locks. A dash-cam can act as a deterrent as many models have a special mode

You can also take photographs of items of value, make a note of the serial numbers and consider registering them online at a property register site.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.hampshire.police.uk, or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
