E-scooter update

Good Afternoon,

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions on our recent E-scooter post. We have taken many of these on board and I would like to give you an update on some of the steps I have taken since that post was published.

First of all, myself and our Education Partnership Team (PC 24324 HILLS and PC 25167 WHEELER) have carried out ASB (Anti-Social Behaviour) assemblies to the year 8 and 9 students at Brighton Hill Community School. This covered topics such as public order, e-scooters, substance usage, criminal damage etc. There was lots of good questions and engagement from the students that attended. The Education Team has now delivered these talks to most of the schools in Basingstoke and they have scheduled to deliver the talks to the rest of the schools soon.

I have also been to some of the main stores in Basingstoke that sell e-scooters to check their policies and procedures around their sale. These include:
-    Halfords
-    Smyths Toys Superstore
-    Currys
The managers of these stores have walked me through their procedures and the disclaimers that they give people at the point of sale.

The following schools have all agreed to display a poster about the rules around the use of e-scooters, these posters have also been sent home to parents via Parent Mail or school newsletters.
-    Chalk Ridge Primary School
-    Manor Field Junior School
-    Hatch Warren Junior School
-    St Mark’s CE Primary School
-    Brighton Hill Community School
-    The Blue Coat School
-    St Anne’s Catholic Primary School
-    Park View Primary School
-    Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School

I have also been patrolling the schools as people mentioned parents taking their children to school on e-scooters. I can confirm that around another 15 warning letters have been issued since the original post was published.
