Theft from Vehicle Crime

Good afternoon Southampton North!

We’ve seen a rise in suspicious activity and thefts from vehicles in our area which the team are working hard to progress enquiries to identify the offenders. These incidents are often opportunistic, with offenders looking for quick and easy targets—especially cars that are unlocked or have items left on display.

Here are some quick wins to protect your vehicle and belongings:

🔐Always lock your car—even if you’re only leaving it for a moment. Before bed, make it a habit to double-check your vehicle is secure.

💎 Remove valuables from your car or keep them out of sight. Items such as phones, wallets, bags, sunglasses, and even loose change can tempt thieves.

🎦 Use home security—CCTV or video doorbells are great deterrents. Check your cameras cover your driveway or where your car is parked. Clear signage about CCTV can also put off would-be thieves.

❌ Don’t leave keys near the door or in easy-to-reach places—especially with keyless entry cars. Consider using a signal-blocking pouch for key fobs.

☎ Report any suspicious activity immediately via 101, or 999 in an emergency. Your call could help us catch those responsible.

What your Neighbourhood Policing Team is doing:

High-visibility patrols—We will be out and about at varying times in both the day and night when on shift.

Proactive community engagement - We aim to speak with members in the community in affected areas and provide security advice and support.

Partnership working—Collaborating with local councils and businesses to improve street lighting, signage, and community safety.

Together, we can make it harder for criminals to target our community. Please stay vigilant, follow our crime prevention advice, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you see something suspicious.

Let’s work together to keep Southampton North safe.
