Please can you share the following scam alert with your communities and service users Trading Standards would like to warn you about some scams that are currently doing the rounds – Text claiming to be from DWP – this message tells you to click on a link to ensure that your receive your Winter Heating Allowance, this will give a date to respond by in an attempt to pressure you to respond. This is a SCAM – According to the Government website the Winter Fuel Allowance will be available to anyone born before 22 September 1959 and you do not need to do anything – payments will be made automaticallyA couple of scam emails claiming to be from Council Tax – one tells you that you owe money and to click on a link to pay and the other states that they haven’t received your payment for the current billing period and to click on a link to check the status – DON’T these are scams, if not to take your money it will be to harvest your information. For any information about your council tax go to the Council website Council TaxEmail from BT and EE Telecommunication – the email states that they are disconnecting their old mailbox and that you need to click on a link to log in and confirm your account is still active. This is a Phishing exercise designed to gather your information which can be used or sold on to further scam you.Email claiming to be from DVLA – it states that your recent vehicle tax payment was unsuccessful and you need to click on a link to update your payment details – DON’T this is a scamText about a parking penalty ticket – This is a scam, Don’t click on links in texts or emails from unknown sources out of the blue.
