Woman, 40, charged with shoplifting and assault in Basingstoke


A woman has been charged with shoplifting and assault following incidents in Basingstoke.

It comes after officers received reports that food worth £34.14 was stolen from Marks & Spencer in Chineham on 9 June.

It was also reported that a man was assaulted and suffered a split lip and cuts on his finger. He was also reportedly threatened with the bottom half of a metal can.

Officers also received a report that food and drink worth £5 had been stolen from One Stop on Sherborne Road yesterday (12 June).

We launched an investigation and arrested a woman yesterday.

Donna Kemp, 40, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with two counts of theft from a shop.

She has also been charged with assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.

Kemp is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court tomorrow (14 June).
