Man jailed after admitting theft and vehicle interference offences in Aldershot

A man who walked up a driveway and gained access to a car has been jailed for 24 weeks.

At around 6am on Monday 23 May, Leonard Jones was seen on doorbell camera footage to enter the car parked at a house in Green Way, Aldershot, a court heard.

Nothing was stolen but he was later identified from the footage.

The 39-year-old, of Battle Road, St Leonards, East Sussex, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 4 June.

Jones admitted one count of vehicle interference.

He also admitted theft from a shop, which related to the theft of meat worth £80 from the Co-op in Lower Farnham Road on Tuesday 3 June.

The court heard that in carrying out the offences, Jones breached a Criminal Behaviour Order, which banned him from a certain area of Aldershot. Jones admitted the breaches.

He was jailed for a total of 24 weeks.

Sergeant Rob Tiller, from Aldershot’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Jones has a history of stealing from shops and breaking into vehicles. This type of crime has such a detrimental effect on businesses and residents, and we will look at very option available to us to stop it.”
