Good afternoon all, The latest edition of the West Wight Neighbourhood Newsletter is here, giving you a snapshot of some of the things that the team have been up to throughout February. Yarmouth and the West Wight
The team carried out another successful Bike Security marking event in Niton last month. 12 cycles were protectively marked for those who attended. Please do keep an eye on www.facebook.com/IOWightPolice for advertisements on future cycle marking events.
Police have been made aware of nuisance youths causing issues for residents in the Totland area. This has involved individuals smashing bottles in the play area off of The Broadway, playing loud music, door knocking and setting a bin alight which a member of the public then put out themselves.
Neighbourhood officers are patrolling the area and we will be speaking to any groups found here. Any juveniles found to be causing anti-social behaviour will be taken home to their parents.
If you have any issues or are currently experiencing any anti-social behaviour, please let us know via the 101, online or 999 in an emergency.
We have also had concerns raised by members of the public regarding nuisance use of electric scooters in Rew Lane, Wroxall. These particular scooters are illegal to use on the public highway. Anyone found to be involved in the behaviour reported to police will be issued a warning letter, and the scooters can then be seized by police under the Road Traffic Act 1988 if they are used in a public place again.
Newport
A cycle marking event was held in Newport last month. This was not as well attended as previous events – we hope that this means that a large number of people have already had their bikes marked so we will take this as a positive! However, if you would still like your bike marked, keep an eye out on our Facebook page for any upcoming events on the Island.
Regular beat surgeries for you to attend will also be advertised so please attend these to chat with your local police team, and also have the chance to take part in our ‘Lets Talk’ initiative which allows you to inform us of any issues you may be having, and also share the good that is in your area.
PCSO Oatley is working with the Newport Business association and Shopwatch with regards to shoplifting and ways to reduce incidents happening in the stores. Partnership working helps to create a better way forward, with best practice being shared.
Cowes Police have worked with the Civil Enforcement officers (parking) at Northwood Primary and Gurnard Primary schools at the close of school days. Many drivers were spoken to with regards to parking on double yellow lines and stopping on the zig zags. One ticket was issued at Northwood to a vehicle that was left parked in the bus stop. There were no issues with identified at Gurnard regarding parking. We are going to work with the two schools to help educate children and adults to make the areas safer. Please pop along to any of the beat surgeries in the area and check out the Cowes office opening hours on Facebook or on the door of Cowes Police Station (on the High Street) – it would be great to meet you all, hear your thoughts and have a chat.
