A man has been jailed and handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) for shoplifting in Farnborough. Christopher Waite, 36, of Coombe Way, Farnborough, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Friday 28 February. Magistrates were provided with evidential documents by police detailing his offending, including a report that he stole alcohol and chocolate from Tesco on Cove Road, Farnborough, on 16 February. Waite was charged with theft from a shop and pleaded guilty. He was jailed for a total of eight weeks and was handed the CBO, which will last for two years. Under the conditions of the order, Waite must: - Leave a retail / business premises immediately if asked to do so - Place all items for purchase in baskets / trolleys - Present means to pay for goods / services upon request - He must also not enter Sainsbury’s / its car park on Queensmead, be drunk in a public place and is banned from entering Tesco on Cove Road If he fails to comply with these conditions, he risks being arrested and prosecuted further. PC Jack Metcalfe, from the Farnborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Christopher Waite is a prolific offender and we know his actions have had a considerable impact on our local businesses and the wider community. "We hope this reassures the local community that we will continue to take action and also explore other options – such as this CBO – to prevent further offending in the area. "We want the community to keep reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour and business crime around the town to police, so we can continue to work with partners to address these behaviours, and take appropriate action against any criminal offences." | ||||
