Hi Resident
A few areas where we can easily prevent ourselves from becoming victims of crime. If you find this information helpful please “rate” this message at the bottom (very quick and simple). 1- Consider how you lock your front door- personal preference on this one because I am aware many residents prefer to be able to easily leave the house in-case of a fire. If you lock your front door by only pulling the door handle up on the inside- it might be possible to put an implement through the letterbox to pull the handle down from the inside- this provides almost silent entry to the house. It can be prevented by- locking the door using the key if you wish- and ensure the key is available to you ( but out of sight) in-case you need to leave in an emergency. You can also use a letterbox deflector which helps to prevent implements being put through the door to pull the handle down.
2- Setting up additional online safety- by this I mean- making use of authenticator applications so that should anyone try to log into any of your internet based accounts- an additional verification method is sent to you ( for example a one time PIN to your mobile) for you to authenticate the access. This 2 step authentication is available for most internet applications including- facebook, hotmail. instagram, ebay, paypal etc.
3- Please be aware not to hand you PIN out to anyone- your bank will never ask for it, Police will never ask for it.
4- Make sure house and car keys are kept out of view from letterboxes / windows / doors. Consider using a faraday box / bag to place car keys into, this stops their signal being hijacked to open the car without the keys.
5- Don't leave tools outside, these can be used by others to gain access to cars / buildings.
6- Don't leave valuables in your car when it's empty- this includes paperwork with your information on it. Please double check you have locked your car on leaving it.
Please email me if you'd like more information on any of these suggestions, I am always keen to help prevent someone becoming a victim of crime in the first place.
