Shoplifter jailed for stealing more than £900 worth of goods from Newport shops


Good afternoon,

 

Neighbourhood teams continue to target habitual shoplifters and support businesses across the Island affected by retail crime. Following recent efforts, we have some good news to share about a recent suspect who has been sent to prison. 

 

Raymond Skelly, aged 45, appeared at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 1 August where he pleaded guilty to the following offences:

 

  • Theft of £37 worth of alcohol from Sainsbury’s in Newport on 26 June.
  • Theft of £300 worth of food, drink, laundry and electrical items from B&M in Newport on 6 July.
  • Theft of £152 worth of food, drink and clothes from Sainsbury’s in Newport on 6 July.
  • Theft of £158.99 worth of clothing from Sports Direct in Newport on 10 July.
  • Theft of a drill worth £49.99 from B&M in Newport on 30 July.
  • Theft of £274.93 worth of goods from B&M in Newport on 30 July.

  • Skelly, of Culver Parade in Sandown, was subsequently jailed for 20 weeks.

     

    He has also been ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge, and £85 in costs.
