We have arrested a man after two properties were broken into in the Freemantle area of Southampton overnight.

We were called shortly before 4.40am this morning (Wednesday 19 June) to a report of a burglary in progress at a property on Hill Lane.

Officers attended and arrested a 40-year-old man of no fixed abode on suspicion of burglary. A knife was seized from him and he was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/sharp pointed article in a public place. Keys and sunglasses, suspected to be stolen, were seized.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of a second count of burglary in connection with two incidents reported to us at an address on Waterloo Road, one of which took place yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 18 June) and one which took place at around 1am this morning.

He remains in police custody at the current time and an investigation is ongoing today.
