Man and woman charged with shoplifting and assaulting police officer in Basingstoke


A man and a woman have been charged with shoplifting and assaulting a police officer following an incident in Basingstoke.

We received reports that various items, including alcohol and cosmetic products worth £52.10 were stolen from the Tesco store on Carpenters Down on 7 June.

Officers attended the scene and arrested a man and a woman. One officer was assaulted. No injuries have been reported.

Karl Boness, 35, of May Place, Basingstoke, was charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, theft from a shop and escape from lawful custody.

Joanne Church, 41, of no fixed abode, was charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, theft from a shop, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and using threatening behaviour to cause harassment / alarm / distress.

They are due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court today (10 June).
