Theft from Motor Vehicles

Good morning,

I am writing in relation to recent reports of thefts from motor vehicles in Farnborough and wanted to take the opportunity to pass on some crime prevention advice to help keep your vehicles and valuable items secure.

As we start to get into warmer weather, there is the temptation to leave vehicle windows open to keep your car cool.  When leaving your vehicle unattended, ensure you close all windows and lock the doors.

Upon locking your vehicle, check to ensure all the doors and boot are definitely closed and secure.

If possible, park your vehicle in an attended car park, or in areas frequently travelled by other members of the public.

When parking at home, if you have a garage, try to ensure you park your car inside.  Some insurance companies will reduce your annual fees if you are able to park your car in a garage.  If you do not have access to a garage, try and park your car in a well-lit area.

Do not leave anything on display in your vehicle, and try to ensure you take all valuable items from the vehicle when parking, this includes documents.  For situations where you are unable to remove all the valuable items, such as trade’s equipment, you can get advice on further securing your vehicle on the Sold Secure - Security Product Testing & Approval website.

You can also register your valuable items on the national property database at The National Property Register, for Phones, Gadgets, Bicycles & More... (immobilise.com). Should your property be lost or stolen the chances of it being returned to you is greatly increased once recovered by Police.

Kind regards,
