We are investigating a number of indecent exposure incidents over the past few days in Southampton and would like to hear from anyone with information.

On Sunday (14 April) at approximately 4pm, a man in his 30s was approached by a man unknown to him on Southampton Common. The unknown man began shouting at him and making sexual comments. On the same day at around 9.10pm a woman in her 30s was approached by a man unknown to her, again on Southampton Common. He indecently exposed himself to her while attempting to engage in conversation with her.

On Tuesday afternoon (16 April) at approximately 4.30pm it was reported that a man had indecently exposed himself to a woman in her 30s on a footpath on Southampton Common.

Nobody was injured or assaulted on either occasion and each person left the area before reporting the incidents to police.

Southampton Chief Inspector Chris Douglas said: “We know that incidents of this nature will be concerning to members of the public who use or travel through Southampton Common and I want you to know that we are doing everything we can to identify and locate those responsible.

“We have been carrying out numerous enquiries and officers will be patrolling the area over the coming days, at various times of the day and night.

“This behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated by police. Southampton residents have the right to feel safe using these public spaces and we need to know about any incidents of this nature so that we can effectively take action. Please do report it to us if you have been a victim of this type of incident or have any information.”

While we carry out our investigation we would like to urge anyone who has been the victim of any incidents of this nature or has seen anything suspicious in the Southampton Common area to please report it to us.
