Baffins Area Update

Good Afternoon all,

It’s PC Jamie here, your local Beat Bobby.

Many of you have expressed concerns to me about shoplifting at stores along Tangier Road and as your dedicated beat officer in share in this.

Last week, I held a meeting with the area manager and security manager for one of the shops on Tangier Road along with both the police and council licencing teams. This provided an opportunity to share these concerns and to identify how we can work together to tackle this issue.

I was pleased to see the extra measures they had already put in place prior to our meeting and I am really encouraged by the conversations that have taken place. Collectively, we all want to see the situation improve and I hope that some of the measures being implemented will result in action being taken against offenders resulting in a positive effect on the community. We will all be meeting again in the next few weeks to continue to work on this issue and I will update you again when I have more news to share!

On the issue of shoplifting, the team located a male wanted for a number of shoplifting offences over the weekend. The male has been charged for 12 shopliftings, remanded and is due to appear in court today.

You may have also seen a large police presence around the Eastern Road area last week, including our colleagues from the National Police Air Service (NPAS). This related to a vehicle that allegedly failed to stop for police before the occupants exited the vehicle and tried to make a run for it! They didn’t get very far though, our “eye in the sky” made sure of that. Who knew, you can’t outrun a helicopter with high-tech camera equipment! Two persons swiftly arrested by your District Policing Team on suspicion of a number of offences.

I will post updates on here to keep you updated on what I am doing, what rest of the team are doing and important events/incidents in the Baffin’s area. I appreciate we haven’t used Hampshire Alerts very often, but I plan on using it much more so keep an eye out for my updates and crime prevention advice.

Please tell your friends, family and neighbours about Hampshire Alerts and ask them to sign up to receive updates about what is happening in their local area. Feel free to share this message to anyone in the area you feel would find it interesting and rate these messages so I understand if you find them useful or not.
