Theft of Motor Vehicle

Good morning,

Unfortunately, my alert this morning is to make you aware that during the week a vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a resident's home in Farnborough.  Please could I make you aware of this incident, and provide a few useful pieces of information below that you can read through, and decide whether any may be of use to you:

Keyless Car entry:  Please consider making use of a ‘Faraday’ bag / box, to place your keys in.  The Faraday bag blocks the signal created by your keys, and prevents the signal being hi-jacked and used to open your car door.

Removing keys from sight of the front door letter box:  Where possible, consider removing your keys out of sight of the front door / windows / letterboxes- this is to prevent keys being ‘hooked ’ out and used without having entered the home.  It is important however, that you keep your keys in a place that you are happy will enable you swift exit from your home in the case of a fire; this remains personal choice.

Timer switches: making use of timer switches to give the illusion you are home / awake.

Alarms: Use of alarms within your car, and alarms that attach to your car and house to indicate should the car be driven too far away from the house

Drive way target hardening:  If you park your car on the driveway, are there are methods you can use to make the driveway prevent crime ( for example bollards to be installed, gates locked, parking less desirable cars in front of your more valuable cars).

Although this alert is sent following an incident, I would like to reassure you that you do live in a safe area.  Should you have any queries or concerns please let me know and I will come back to you.

Kind Regards

PC Annette Barnett
